Canon Digital Rebel/EOS 300D PTP Driver

Hi - I have a Canon Digital Rebel/EOS 300D that I have successfully
been using in conjunction with a Windows Vista machine for about 12
months via the PTP connection.

However, when I recently connected the Camera I was prompted for a
driver for the camera, which as far as I'm aware Canon does not have
a
Vista compatible one for this camera. Instead, it is supposed to use
Vista's built-in PTP driver.

Any idea what may have caused this change in behaviour and how to
resolve the problem?

As a workaround you can use a card reader. A side benefit is it saves usage
of your camera battery.

The Bob's suggestion may be useful but #1 it is inerresting to find out what
happened to the driver and #2 I am not sure that with the solution he
offered you may avoid it in the first place.
The link below is to a MS website PTP driver (Picture Transfer Protocol). It
offers insight into the .inf file and offers some troubleshooting. I did not
examine int closely.
