Presumably you installed as per Cannon instructions, which require you to
install their software and only connect the scanner when that option is
given?
Allthough I dont believe there are drivers avilable for WinXp which is
likely to be your problem. You could try the win2k drivers http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/c...loadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=351&modelid=8348
