I need some help please! I have a HP PC running Windows XP media center. I
get the following error everytime I try to print something, "error occurred
during file creation". The heading of the error message is "Canon Bjc_4300".
I get the error also when trying to open some other programms, especally
ones installed recentlly.

The strange thing is that I don't have a BJC_4300 printer nor I ever had one
or installed its drivers on my PC. Another thing I noticed is that I don't
get this error when using the administrator account. Only get it when using
other users account on the PC.

Please let me know if you can help me or know of other places I can get
help. Thank you in advance!

Hi,

Go into the Printers folder of the Control Panel, and delete the Canon
BJC-4300 printer from your list or printers.
And then try again.

Looks like this is a common problem with Canon printers, XP and
non-administrators.

To fix it I had to do two things:
1) Give all users Full access to the general Windows Spool folder,
usually
'C:\Windows\System32\Spool'.
2) Give all users Full access to a Canon-specific spool folder - for
me this is 'C:\Windows\NTBJRSTR'. I have a Canon BJC-4000, I guess the
folder name may vary for other models.

I used the DOS command CACLS to change the folder permissions. For
example,
C:\Windows> cacls NTBJRSTR /T /E /G Blaise:F

I came across this by accident but have to respond. This is one of the
best pieces of advice given and I have routinely used it over the past
two years. I too was plagued by the BJC_4300 error, and a number of
other similar items. It has to do with the 'rights' issue with Windows
Xp and limited access users. The situations where it happens involves
many older, pre-xp windows or DOS programs, or those that are
unsigned.

You can use the DOS CACLS command to give the approriate rights for a
lot of these older programs that require read and write access to the
folder.
