I am trying to write data files to a CD-R by copyng them
to the drive. Then when the wizard comes up it says I need
a "writable cd" in which I do not have.

The knowledge base directions imply either disc type will
work and it should.

I did enable recording to the drive.

Can anyone help? Thanks

So there is no blank recordable or rewritable disc in the
drive? There's the problem...

Far as I know, you may not "drag and drop" to CD-R, only to
CD-RW and that after you "format" the CD-RW with software

He doesn't say what burning software he's using (if any) to write to
the CDR. After formatting the CDR with DirectCD or InCD, he should be
able to drag and drop write to the CDR like a very large floppy disk.
You can even write to a CDR using multi-session with EasyCD or Nero.
Also, CDRs and CDRWs do not have to be formatted in order to be
written to.

A 'writeable CD' is another name for a blank CD-R disk

Make sure you have not turned off Autoplay functions on the drive. In
My Computer, right click on it, Properties, and for Mixed Content make
sure it is set to 'Open in Windows Explorer to view files'
