When I click on My Network Places in XP Home, I ALWAYS get
and error message saying that windows explorer has
encountered an error and needs to close. As a result, I
cannot see anything on the network, but other people can
see me.

Hi,
I think that we need to collect more info. Please try
the following:
1. Open Network Places so that an error is generated.
2. Open up event viewer (Control Panel > Performance &
Maintanence > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer)
3. Look for an error message that occured upto 2 minutes
ago.
4. Please provide me with the 'source' from the source
column and the error code.
Thanks, Luke.

Im not sure what you need.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. You've picked the correct error.
Could you also send me the error ID. When you open up
event viewer there should be a 'Event' column. Could you
please send me the number from that column for the event
log that you sent me (e.g 1001). You may also want to try
and click on the blue internet link in the log as this
may reveal more about the error. Thanks, Luke.

Hi again,

Thanks for being patient with me and trying to help.

Event ID= 1000

After finding the ID # of 1000, I followed your suggestion
and looked at the hyperlink. From the explanation:

The indicated program stopped unexpectedly. The message
contains details on which program and module stopped. A
matching event with Event ID 1001 might also appear in the
event log. This matching event displays information about
the specific error that occurred.

A event with the ID 1001 did in fact also occur. It was:

Fault bucket 50719680.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I'm currently finding more about this error for you. I
don't think that there is going to be a simple solution
to this problem. Could you please do the following for
me:
run each of these commands at a command prompt

regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll
regsvr ole32.dll

And then reboot. See if the problem still exists. Could
you also try following the support link that is in
the '1001' error message, you will probably be able to
find out more than I can by doing this.

Let me know how you get on, Luke.
