When I try to use the file - open menu or the open folder
icon I get the following error:

The macro 'FileOpenbook' cannot be found

I reinstalled twice and keep getting the same error. Any
ideas?

It sounds as if some auto-loading file or add-in has taken over your Open
menu item. Check for any add-in selected under Tools, Add-ins. I recall an
old virus checker add-in that used to do this. Uncheck any add-ins that you
do not know you need.

If no dice then, with Excel closed, check your XLSTART folders for files you
do not recognize. Any files in these folders (there are two XLSTART
folders, one under your Office folder and one under Documents and Settings)
will load automatically when Excel starts.

Hi gene
There may be several reasons for this behaviour.
Someone's been customizing these options previously (or has attached a
custom toolbar) affecting macros from a personnal macro workbook for
example.
Search for any XLB files on your computer and rename them with .OLD for
example and restart Excel and try
Or
Search for any Excel files in the xlStart Folder on your computer and move
them to another location
