Cannot upgrade basic to dynamic disk

Hi
I have a number of PC's that I wanted to recover some unused space on. I
figured to make the disk dynamic disks then extend the volumes to use the
unallocated space. However the option "upgrade to dynamic disk" does not
appear when I right click on the disk in Disk Management. I know am doing
it right because I have done this many times before and can do it on some
other PC's.

I think the problem is the PC's that don't work were all cloned from an
image made on a laptop and it's not possible to use dynamic disks on
portable pc's. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get round this problem
without wiping the drives and resizing them ?

Thanks
Dave

Use a partition management tool such as PQMagic from PowerQuest
to resize your partitions. It does it non-destructively on the fly.

thanks for this but what I was hoping for was a regedit that would stop the
OS thinking it was installed on a laptop.
