upgrade a disk from basic to dynamic

We are trying to upgrade a disk from basic to dynamic howerver the option is
always grey.

The machine currently has 2 SCSI disks that are the same model and size.
The first disk contains the operating systems plus software in 2 volumes
while the second disk is blank. We were able to successfully convert the
first disk from basic to dynamic while the option to convert the second disk
always grey. Are intention is to configure the 2 disks in a mirror
configuration.

We are running windows 2k advanced server and the machine is clustered with
another machine. The 2 machines share a raid box.

Can anyone sugest a reason why the system is not allowing us to convert the
second disk to dynamic?

Microsoft has thoughtfully provided a list of possible reasons, here:

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately none of these reasons are valid in our
case. Basically we have 2 disks that are the same model and size. The first
one that contains the boot volume that was successfully converted while the
other one that is unformatted without any partitions that the option is
always grey. We tried creating a partition on that disk however the
situation remained the same.

Can you please sugest any other reason?
