Cannot Undelete SVCHOST.EXE

Help! Need the guru's on this one...

I was getting a "stuttering" when XP-Pro was 1st booting
up. Task Manager showed multiple instances of svchost
running. All but one "ends" w/out problem, and I finally
got that one to end w/out shutting down windows. Still
had my stuttering, so I thought I had one of the "worms"
floating around... the ones that mess with RPC and stuff.
I followed some manual directions from my ISP (RoadRunner)
and didn't actually find any traces of any worms or
viruses on my system (I take VERY thorough precautions on
that note!), until the last step. Logged in as
Administrator, in safe mode, I deleted the
file "SVCHOST.EXE" from the %windows&\system32 directory
(as explained in the directions!).

DON'T EVER DO THAT!

Now, I can re-boot my computer (yes, I still get the
stutter), and my desktop shows up with all the icons, but
I get no "start bar". I can't even use the "window" key
to pull up the start menu, just like it doesn't exist.
So, thinking I was safe by letting the svchost.exe file
sit in the recycle bin, I re-log on as administrator (with
all the error messages about not being able to start
services), but I CAN'T "RESTORE" SVCHOST.EXE from the
recycle bin!

Now... does anyone know a: How can I restore that one
file, and/or, b: if I can't restore it, where can I get it?

Thanks! HEEEELLLLPPPPP MMMEEEEEE!!!!!

You may be able to extract the svchost.exe file from the WinXP cd.

Look in the Help & Support for how to extract single files from the cd.

Thanks... I'll give it a try. I'm also going to try
copying the svchost.exe from a Win2000 machine and pasting
it into my machine. Anyone know if the two are
compatible? I figure they should be....

Chris.
