svchost.exe taking up nearly 100% of cpu

Jen

Lately my PC has been slowed down greatly after 5 or so minutes after start
up by what appears to be a process called svchost.exe, which is taking up
almost 100% of my CPU making everything else nearly impossible to do. I
downloaded the Process Explorer to find out which one it was and it's this
one:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

Sometimes after many reboots it stops doing this, or if I sometimes even
kill the process, but this has become very frustrating. Any and all help is
appreciated.

Please not that you will have to tell me step by step what to do, since I'm
not as computer savvy as some of you tech support people. ;)

Try run, type:services.msc In msc, locate @ the top of page ".NET optimization
service v2.0",double click on it,set to manual,stop service,exit msc,restart
pc...

Well it's already set to Manual and the service wasn't even running (already
Stopped), so I don't see what I could do there...

The Process you mention covers a number of Services. You should be able
to see in Process Explorer which in the group is causing the problem.
Click on the plus sign before the svchost process generating the CPU
usage. One in the group, which often causes problems is Windows
Automatic Updates -wuauclt.exe.

If the problem is not wuauclt.exe post the details.

Hope this helps.
