In attempting to turn on "Windows Automatic Update", I
right click on My Computer, click Properties, then click
on the Automatic UPdate Tab. There's a line there which
informs me that "The Windows Update Service is
Unavailable" and I cannot do anything because all the
options are "grayed out". Can anyone tell me why this is,
and what I can do to correct the problem? Thanks.

Hi,

Start/run services.msc

Scroll down to the Automatic Update service and double-click it. Use the
"start" button, and set the startup type to automatic.

Try the following:

Go to Start > Run and type: SERVICES.MSC , and hit enter.
Scroll down to "Automatic Updates", right-click on this service
and select Properties > Startup type > Automatic,
then click Apply. If you see an option to restart the service,
then restart the service.
