I have tried to do a system restore a few times on Xp but when I perform the
restore and the computer restarts it tells it was "unable to restore to the
earlier date" I have done the TEST that was suggested on a previous posting
and a virus and spware scan with no luck, What could be the problem? , any
ideas for help. Thanks

Something to check,
Go to System Restore again,
on the left side click System Restore Settings,
Be sure there is no check mark in-
Turn off system restore on all drives.

Then click to highlite Windows XP and the Settings button,
Move the slider bar to the left down to 7 percent or less

Backout and Reboot

Hi
I did exactly what you said, Sadly same message after I rebooted. "Unable to
restore"

OK, something else you can try,
On the Start-Run line, type: SFC /SCANNOW
Have your XP CD handy to install for reference.
This will check all protected system files for errors.

Hi Marky,

The majority of the time this is caused by a corrupt restore point. Turning
System Restore off then on again will purges all existing restore points,
and creates one new one.

There are also other possibilities that can cause this to happen.
Try running System Restore in Safe Mode.
1. Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to
start your computer in Safe Mode with a command prompt.
2. Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account
that has administrator credentials.
3. Go to Start - Run and type the following command then press ENTER:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
