Cannot Synchronize time on Media Center 2005 PC

Starting yesterday, my computer can no longer synchronize time with windows
or government time site. This worked fine before. I did change several
things. I loaded an MS update to fix problems with Framework 2 (read/write
problem). I was having some trouble with DVD player making noise when
starting to play DVD so I allowed sharing with other 2 users on PC (Media
Player 11). I changed power management to go into standby after 2 hours.

These are the only things that I changed recently. The instructions for the
MS update that I loaded (KB918642) said that I must be running Framework
2--actually I had forgotten that I had updated to Framework 3.0, which is
suppose to be an update of Framework 2, but now I am wondering if I need to
uninstall Framework 3 and reinstall it? If anyone could give me some advice,
I would really appreciate it! I need to get this PC fixed ASAP.

The time synchronization error just says that an error occurred while trying
to synchronize time--no other explaination. When I logged into another user
and logged back on to Admin account it said in time box that it had never
been synchronized before--which is not true since it has been working very
well.

Could someone please try to help me figure out what is going on? I checked
the time service and it is scheduled to autostart and is running. I have
Office Standard 2003 installed and use dial up modem to connect to internet
if that matters. I think I saw a post on re-registering the service which I
think I will try now.

I suggest you post back after trying that fix you mention. If it doesn't
work post back with the exact steps you tried, so others won't duplicate the
information.

I also have been unable to synchronize with either time server for the last
several days. There are 4 computers in this house, all runnung Windows XP
SP2, all have been up and running for some time with no changes except for
Microsoft updates. All have had no problems synchronizing the time until
recently. Now none of them can synchronize. There is something going on, but
I don't know what.
Norton's Internet Security( 2006 or 2007 ) is installed on each, and has
been for some time. Disabling this program had no affect.
I connect to the internet via Comcast cable, and a Linksys WRT54GS router,
and have for years. No changes to any of this.
