This afternoon, I tried to synchronize the clock on my desktop and my laptop
using time.windows.com as well as time.nist.gov. In both cases, I got a
message saying, " An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with
............." Could both servers be down at the same time or should I
look on my end for the problem?

Thank you

though these services do work sometimes ... windows is very poor when it
comes to connecting to them.. I too tried both those servers and they both
failed.

try putting in this address : bitsy.mit.edu .. I tried it twice and it
succedded each time

good luck

Jack,

Try one of the NIST Servers here:
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262680>

I have my clock automatically set daily with time-a.nist.gov and it works quite well.

Time-a.nist.gov works just fine.

Thank you.

I have had the same issue and also use McAfee. To answer your question you
have to enable or open port 123 (w32time) under "system services" when your
under program permissions or the area where you would modify which programs
have access to the internet.

Once you enable or open port 123 or under system services check "network
time protocol" and your computer will be able to update with windows time
server or any other server you may choose.

Also... If you use any other 3rd party firewalls you would also have to make
sure that the network time protocol (port 123) is enabled or granted to
access internet.
