Cannot start Windows XP in Medion Microstar laptop

I have a Celeron 2Ghz laptop with a 20Gb HDD and 256 DDR RAM. I have been
having problems installing XP into the HDD from the laptop so, I took the HDD
out and installed XP by connecting the HDD to another laptop. Now, XP works
fine in the other laptop, but it will not start up in the Medion laptop.

I thought of installing XP again by connecting the HDD in the Medion laptop,
but the XP setup never completes or sometimes it doesn't even start up. I've
tried to change the RAM and also use another hard drive on the Medion laptop
but Windows XP Setup still doesn't work.

I've downloaded the 6x XP setup startup disks from windows site and the
setup crashes at exactly the same place as the XP setup CD, so there is no
problem with the CD. I've actually installed XP into the HDD via the same CD.
But neither the does XP startup in the medion laptop, nor does the XP
Bootable CD work in the medion laptop.

XP setup seems to either crash immediately after the message "Setup is
checking your hardware configurations" OR it crashes after the all the
drivers have been installed and when the message appears "Processing
Information Files" in the blue setup screen.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what is possibly wrong with the
laptop. Any ideas?

The HDD is fine, the RAM as well and the installation CD. I've been trying
to sort this out for over a week now and am comepletely exhausted with ideas.
Thank you very much for any support.

Regards,

Asif

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

NOTE: If you have an internal Zip Drive installed, physically disconnect the
EIDE and power cable to it before proceeding, otherwise your main
hard drive may not be assigned the customary C: drive letter.
After installing Windows XP, you may then reconnect it.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. ==> Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

9. If you happen to run into any installation difficulties, use the following resources:
