Cannot start the www service on win2k professional box

Hi

My name is santosh and i am trying to start a service on one of the win2k
boxes here but it pops up an error message

Error 1717 the interface is unknown

i have checked the microsoft website and i could not get much help i have
tried uninstalling IIS and reinstalling it but it simply does not want to
start and also there are a couple of other services like the FTP service
even that pops up the same error message and on one particular site they had
mentioned that we need to make sure that Client for microsoft has to be
installed but that is there by default i dont know what the problem is can
someone please help me with this...

Check that the 'Event Log' service is started.

Thanks a lot that did it but i still do not understand as to how are these
two services linked to each other..

Dave Patrick

Starting those other services triggered a write to the event log which
couldn't happen since it wasn't running hence the error message. Make sure
the Event Log service is set to automatic start.
