Hello there,
The answer must be general because you have not told us all that
much...but here goes.
A catastrophic failure occurring just as you start a program indicates
either a corruption in one or more files or the registry, OR, certain files
are missing.
As a general lets sort things out step try the following.....
1) Download the full versions of Movie Maker, Windows Media Player version 9
and DirectX version 9.0b
2) Reboot the machine and install DirectX
3) Reboot again and install Windows Media Player
4) Reboot again and install Movie Maker 2
5) Reboot again and if it does not work throw it out of the nearest window
!!!
The reason for the reboot is to ensure that any file locks that are in force
are released and that means that any failure in the installation by not
correctly checking a file or not being able to over write it should not
occur. If it does I do a great line in short handled heavy lump hammers !!!
Let us know how you get on
Best Wishes.....John Kelly
