After installing a lot of Vista updates after my holidays, I just can't send
mail with Windows mail. Before it worked properly. I still can receive mail,
i can send mail to newsgroups and i can use internet normally.

It cannot be a problem with my provider, because my husband, who uses the
same account, does not have any problems. So it must be a problem of my
desktop pc, a rather new HP desktop.

I tried all the suggestions I could find here: I checked my SMTP settings,
they were ok.
I changed the port from 25 to 587 (you never know), but no results, so I set
it back.
I uninstalled my virusscanner (Avast), it didnt help, I installed it again
without the mailcheck, it didn't work. I uninstalled Google Toolbar, no
results. I uninstalled Windows firewall, no results. I installed it again,
with explicite opening port 25 and 119, no results.

Together with this problem I have, also just at once ,the problem that I
cannot download from newsgroups (port 119). I see in the logs that there are
every 2 seconds tries to connect, there is just a little bit traffic and than
its stops again, over and over.
There must be some security-problem but I coud'nt find it.

I really doný know what to try now. Getting desperate!! I hope that anyone
have some solution!!!

Check your list of installed programs for SMS desktop and Google
Desktop. If you find them, uninstall them. Web sites that let you
do a Google search are not a problem.

Have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that
computer, even one of the free trial versions that often comes
already installed on new computers?

Click on the Outbox, then either move any messages you find there
to the Drafts folder or delete them. If any refuse to do either,
download and install this hotfix with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version
of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first.
The Vista SP1 update includes this hotfix and more, but takes longer
to install.

Your problem with newsgroups look like it will need a fix from
someone else, though.
