The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'chicago picture', Account:

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced,
change port 25 to port 587. Click OK. Try sending.
If a different error message appears, make sure you have send authentication
enabled. Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
The box for "My server requires authentication" must be checked.

Gary: What about SSL? I had Windows mail set for smtp port 587 and pop port
995, with SSL enabled. It worked fine for over a year. Suddenly, I get an
error message that says:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.aim.com', Server:
'pop.aim.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

That appears to be an SSL error.

I believe that aim now use IMAP accounts instead of POP3?

See down this page for setup instructions:

As far as I know, the AIM server does not support port 995 or SSL.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced,
then uncheck the SSL option, which should automatically change the
port to 110.

Note: AOL/AIM doesn't officially support POP any longer, but it may
still work. If port 110/no SSL also fails, switch to the IMAP settings
recommended by AOL/AIM:
