Cannot select Client for Microsoft Networks after upgrade to XPH S

After upgrading Win XP Home to SP2, the workstation cannot see the network.
I have disabled firewall and checked all other settings, and I found that the
Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing have been
deselected on all adapters. There is a 10/100 Ethernet, an 802.11G WiFi and
a 1394 adapter which I am not sure what that is since this isn't my computer.

When I select the Client or F/P sharing options, I get a message window
stating the current settings will disable both of these options. However,
since they are not checked, I'm not sure why this message is occurring.

The laptop worked prior to SP2, but the WiFi connection would not do WPA
security. After the upgrade, the WPA worked. The laptop does connect to the
network, gets an IP address and can ping other workstations on the network.
If I do an ipconfig /all, I see that Netbios is disabled also. I have
manually checked this option on each of the adapters too.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

The network connections have become corrupted. The likely solution is
to delete and re-create them.

Go to Device Manager, click the plus sign next to "Network adapters",
and remove all of them, which will remove the corresponding network
connections. Then, click Action | "Scan for hardware changes" to
re-install the network adapters, which will create new network
connections.

The solution you provided worked. I had tried to delete them before, but
could not figure out how. The workstation is connecting fine now.

thanks for the help
