Right click desktop, properties, desktop tab, customize desktop, check what
you want to show.

And the problem is?

A "clean" install will do just that. The only icon on the desktop
will be the recycle bin in a "clean" install.

If you are looking for previous programs' icons. Then you will need
to re-install those programs.

To put your My Computer, Network Places, Internet Explorer and My Documents
back, right click on the desktop, choose Properties, click the Desktop tab,
then click the 'Customize Desktop' button

OK - sorry about that, stupid optical mouse went mad on me.

Anyway as I was saying - right click on the desktop, choose properties,
click the desktop tab, then click the Customize Desktop button. When the new
window opens, put a tick in all the boxes you want icons on the desktop for.

Hope this helps
