System is WXP SP2 with latest patches. Computer is a new Sony VGN-FE18GP
laptop with CoreDuo chip.

I've noticed that whenever I do a search (for Files or Folders) for sthg in
the Windows or Progran Files folders on the C drive, I always get "no
results". I checked this by searching for files that I know are there and
still get "no results." Perhaps, I've unknowingly changed some search
parameter?

System runs ZoneAlarm 6.5, Spy Sweeper 4.5.9, and Norton Antivirus 2006

I don't have indexing turned on for C drive but this shouldn't matter.

Any advice appreciated

Click Start, click Search, click All files and folders, and then click More
advanced options.
Click to select the Search system folders and Search hidden files and
folders check boxes.

No need to be embarrassed. All Windows OS are designed for the average
person. There are a ton of defaults that have to be changed for the more
experienced user. It took me months of searching the Web to find some of
them. Glad to be of help
