Cannot save changes to global template

Hello all.

I have a user who encounters the following message every time she exits
Word 2003: "Cannot save changes to the global template because it is opened
with read-only access. Do you want to save it with a different name? I was
wondering if anyone out here has seen this message and figured out what the
fix is.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?SmFudGhlcmU=?=,

This sounds to me as if
- more than one user (or one instance of Word) is loaded with this global
template

- some kind of change was made that affects that template.

I have one that loads automatically and makes toolbar adjustments. I have two
versions of Word installed, and sharing the same STARTUP folder. If I run them
both simultaneously, I'll get this message when closing the instance of Word
opened last.
