Cannot run windows normally after adding SDRAM

After I added one piece of SDRAM (256M) to my mainboard, my winodws XP Pro
hanged at the step of login.
After I removed the additional SDRAM, it resumed to normal.
I can be sure that the SDRAM is normal. What should I do after the addition
of SDRAM? Should I carry out "Repair Installation"?

You should not have to do anything to WindowsXP when you add RAM. It
should automatically detect it and use it. Make sure you have inserted
properly. Make sure you aren't running into the problem some systems
have with mis-matched RAM or even problems caused by having more than
one stick of memory installed.

RAM modules have to be *very* well matched, or they do not work in
combination: Windows includes various sensitive timing loops that go
wrong if they get into a different speed of RAM. In particular the base
speed and CAS Latency values *must* match
