Cannot rotate pictures in Filmstrip Preview after SP2 upgrade

K

Kim H. Nielsen

After my Windows XP upgrade to Service Pack 2 I cannot rotate pictures in
the "Filmstrip Preview" anymore. Actually, the preview shows a rotated
picture, but it is not stored on the disk as a rotated pictures as it was
before I updated XP. This happened on both my PC's!

Any solutuons or hints?

Try this, maybe it will restore the option:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

PERFECT - thanks a lot!

It worked - but what does this command do? And why is it necessary?

Best regards,
Kim

You're welcome.

The image preview feature is located in the
Shimgvw.dll file. The "regsvr32 shimgvw.dll"
command re-registers the .dll file.

Hi,

I am back.

The reason is that the method you described doesn't work permanently on one
of my computers (but it works fine on the other computer).

On the "bad" computer the "REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL" command does not work
anymore.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

To help you (or perhaps the opposite) I have another problem with the same
PC which might be related (?):

There are two users with administrator rights on the PC: If User#1 has used
MSN, then MSN is automatically re-installed/repaired when User#2 logs in
(and visa versa). What could be the reason for that?

Kind regards,
Kim
