Can not view photos in slideshow or filmstrip option

All of a sudden, I am no longer able to view my photos (in my pictures
folders) in the slide show or filmstrip options. The slide show option
doesn't exist anymore and when I choose filmstrip I get this LONG horizontal
line of thumbnails at the top of my window with the rest of the window blank
(where there used to be a larger view of one photo with the option to rotate,
go to the previous picture or the next picture, etc.). I have new icons on my
toolbar, also. My delete "x" is huge and all my folder options have
disappeared (copy item, move folder, etc.). I don't know what has happened. I
am really frustrated. I have to double click on the thumbnail to view a large
image, one image at a time.

I am running Windows XP Media Edition 2004.

Angela - I had the same problem in my Windows XP Home Edition and was able
to fix it by doing the following;

Start
Run
type this in the window;

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

hit OK

Apparently the standard Microsoft Windows Picture and Fax Viewer that comes
with Windows XP had been disabled somehow. The above procedure reinstalls it.

Hope that helps,

Nick

WOW!!! I had the same problem with viewing my photos (Windows XP). This
worked! (be sure to add the spaces) I'm glad I was directed to this page.
Thanks Angela for starting the post and a hearty THANKS to "nickjr4" for
resolving the problem!

Hey, Click on the folder you have the pictures in. Then right click and choose properties. Then choose customize tab. The first option on this xcreen is show folder as type : Porbably set to documents. Change is to the second option, pictures. Then click apply. When you go back to the pictures and right click you should see the view as slideshow option. Good Luck
