Cannot restore my system to an earlier date

Can someone help me. I have been trying to restore my system to an earlier
date but can't.

I click on the calendar within system restore for a previous date which is
highlighted, then the system restore starts. But after the system reboots I
get the following message.
Cannot restore system to an earlier date no changes have been made.

I have Windows XP PRO SP2, all windows security updates are up to date as of
13/11/2005.

Please Help

Hi

That error message would suggest that one or more of the System Restore
files have become corrupt. You can try turning SR off/on, although you will
lose all existing checkpoints:

Right click on My Computer and select Properties>System Restore. Enable
'Turn off System Restore on all drives' - then reboot your PC. Go back into
SR and disable 'Turn off...' and then reboot again. After the second reboot
you should have one new checkpoint and SR should work properly after that.
