cannot restore icons

I removed my icons by rightclicking on my desktop and unchecking show icons on desktop under the Arrange Icons By tab. I cannot reverse this now. when I go to the Arrange Icons By tab, nothing is highlighted. any pointers?

You need to right click on desktop, select arrange icons by and click on show desktop items and then options will be available.

If you right-click on the desktop, you will see a menu option listed in the
very bottom set that says "Show Desktop Icons". It appears to me that the
menu option simply moved lower down on the context menu.

Is it there, or is it completely gone? Please let me know and I will
investigate this further.
