Cannot rename index file to html

G

Guest

This is my fist attempt to use FTP to load my site. My host requires the
imndex page to be index.html. When I open FP and try to rename my file to
index.html I get an error message : Server error: cannot rename:
c:\.........\index_files destination already exists.

I have used FP Cleaner to clear temp and cache files but it will still not
allow me to rename.

In FP clearly my file shows as HTM however when I look in Explore they seem
to show as HTML???

Pls help

Rename index.htm to index2.htm, allow hyperlinks to be updated
Then rename index2.htm to index.html, and allow hyperlinks to be updated.

The 2 steps are required because you are either using VML graphics (not a
good thing if the site is for the internet, since some browsers will not
see the images), or some or all the page was created in Word, PowerPoint or
Excel (never a good thing, but sometimes unavoidable).
VML and other office applications create thicket folders, in this case
index_files that has to be renamed with the associated page - obviously
index_files cannot be renamed to index_files since this is the same name.
Thicket folders are always hidden in FrontPage, and often hidden in Windows
Explorer.

Thanx Ronx

I was able to rename following your instructions, however now I get an error
550 Index.html Permission Denied.

No idea what this means. I have to look into this and try again.
