Cannot remove AGP card

I recently got a new video card but cannot get my existing card out. The
retention tab is covered up by the video card itself (heat sink & fan stick
out enough to obscure it). I've been told that I should be able to work the
card out, but that hasn't worked so far. The board is an Intel 865GBF, and
the existing card is a PNY 5700 Ultra. I've tried to view the retention tab
from the front of the machine, but I just can't see it. Any suggestions?

A flashlight can be very useful especially when working with dark
components/materials. Good luck.

That's actually pretty common. To have the retention tab blocked by the
card, I mean. I've had to leverage many of them by feel alone, without
being able to actually see it. So don't feel bad.

To make matters worse, there are different types of retention mechanisms.
So you don't know whether to push it down or slide it or what, without
actually seeing it.

I found a picture of that board on the web.

It LOOKS like the retention mechanism is a spring-loaded clip (not really a
spring, flexible plastic hook). To release it, you are going to have to
move it about 1/4" (maybe) in a direction away from the huge heatsink on the
chipset (or away from the CPU).

If you can't feel the end of the retention tab with your finger and pry on
it that way, you might be able to fish a small screwdriver under the card,
from the (CPU side) of the AGP card to press on it that way. Just be
careful not to press on a capacitor or anything else if you attempt that.

Good luck, -Dave

cant you get a flat blade screwdriver and simply nudge the retention tab so
you can remove it away so the graphics card will easily come out. remember
to earth yourself while doing this. STATIC STATIC
