Cannot Reduce the Size of Outlook.pst

Outlook 2003 SP2

My Outlook.pst file exceeds 2MB. I copied almost 1,000 emails (with their
attachments) to a folder and deleted them from their folders in Outlook and
from the “Deleted Items†folder in Outlook.

Next, I ran the Scanpst.exe and fixed all errors. Then I opened the pst
file in Outlook, right-clicked on "Personal Folders", chose "Properties" and
went to "Advanced" and clicked on "Compact Now" (thanks to the suggestion of
Gordon Burgess-Parker on 3/9/06).

The Outlook.pst file is the same size it was when I began.

Outloook 2003 doesn't have the same PST size limits as older versions. To
summarize:

Unicode: PST (Outlook 2003 Only/Not backward compatible)

20GB max file size (default limit but can go higher)

Requirements for Unicode format PST:

- Users must have Exchange 2000 or later accounts
- Outlook also checks the formats - Unicode or ANSI - of users Offline Store
(OST) files and the default archive files.
- Outlook checks the format of users' PST files that are used as a delivery
location (if any).

I'd be VERY worried if it even got to HALF that size - why would you want
to keep all that data?

I don't want to keep all the data in Outlook. I am saving selected emails
and attachments to folders on a shared folder and completely deleting others.

My Outlook.pst file seems too large right now.

I just thought there should be a way to compact large files like this -
much like you have to repair anc compact MS Access mdb files.
