I'm new to Vista. I tried setting up Windows mail this evening and keep
getting the same message pasted below.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Windows Mail', Server:
'pop.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Norton Antivirus was pre-installed. I understand from another post that
uninstalling it is recommenced. Can you suggest a compatible internet
security system that is compatible with Vista

Where did you get that pop.live.com information?
Only those who pay for the Hotmail Plus subscription get POP access
to live.com, and the settings are different.
Is yours a free account or a paid account?

Free Live.com and Hotmail accounts can be accommodated by the
newer Windows Live Mail:

Live Mail set up requested incoming and outgoing mail server info. I went
online and looked for server info.

I have a free account. Would you happen to know the mail server information?

To reiterate, Windows Mail cannot work with free Live.com accounts.
You will need to upgrade to Windows Live Mail (WLM). When you
give the new account setup wizard in WLM your Live.com email
address, it will automatically choose the correct servers for you.
