Hi,

Open WMP10. click Tools/Options/File Types and check the box for Windows

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the Reply Peter.
I did as you Suggested and it was Already Checked.
Could it have Something to do with the Fact that I Might NOT have the
Right Codec Installed or Something.

Thanks Again.
All the Best.

Hi,

WMP10 support avi files natively but it does not support DVD. You need to
install the proper DVD codec for playing DVD disks.

Can you play the disk with other players?
Or can the WMP10 play other disks without any problems?

Since you can hear the sound when the disk is playing, is the "Now Playing"
screen is black out or what?

Pls post back to Ng

Peter.
It Will NOT Play on a DVD OR on a PS2.
WMP10 Can Play Other DVD Disks Without Any Problems.
The "Now Playing" Screen is Showing Surf Splashing as it does when I
Play a CD. I have Never had Any Problems with a CD.

I will give your Suggestion a Try over the Weekend.

Thank you Both.
All the Best.

This is plainly misleading. WMP10 supports AVIs, and it also supports
DVDs, as long as the required CODECs are present. If you have an AVI
encoded with DivX, for example, and you don't have the DivX CODEC (or
equivalent) installed, you will not see your video. The process with
DVDs is similar, in that you need an MPEG2 decoder to view the DVD. The
difference is that MPEG4 decoders (e.g. DivX) are available for free,
whereas MPEG2 decoders generally are not (FFDSHOW is an exception, and
there are players that play DVDs using builtin MPEG2 decoders).

Thanks for the Reply bxf,

I have Found Out it was Encoded with DivX.
Do you Know where I can Download a Copy of the CODEC DivX that is
Compatible with Windows Media Player 10 Please.

Thanks in Advance.
All the Best.

Sorry for not replying sooner - I am away for most weekends and have no
internet access during this time.

www.divx.com is the most obvious site, and they have (or at least used
to have a free version).

There is also FFDSHOW which I like very much and prefer to DivX. For
one thing, it can be configured to decode many different types of files
and can take the place of many separate CODECs. Also, looking at CPU
usage when using FFDSHOW compared to DIVX, for the same files, the
former (FFDS) shows much lower usage, and despite repeated comparisons,
I am not able to see any difference in quality. And, FFDSHOW can also
be used as an ENCODER.

No Apology Necessary bxf, I Know what Weekends are Like.
I will Check Out www.divx.com.
I will also Read up on FFDSHOW.
Thanks Very Much for All your Help.
All the Best.
