cannot ping win2k computer

Do you have other network protocols installed on both of the computers? If
you do, then you could see the computers in "My Network Places" without
TCP/IP working.

You should go through standard TCP/IP troubleshooting on both PCs to make
sure that everything is working correctly.

1. Ping 127.0.0.1 (Loopback address, if this fails, reinstall TCP/IP)
2. Ping x.x.x.x (Your local network cards IP address)
3. Ping y.y.y.y (Another IP address on your local network that isn't
configured on the PC you're doing this from)
4. Ping an IP address of a remote computer (one on the internet)

That should get you in the right direction!

Dear Ricky,

Thank you for your posting.

PING command uses the Echo Reply and ICMP package. To isolate the issue,
you can also try to ping the Windows Me computer from the Windows 2000
computer. If you can ping the Windows Me computer properly from the Windows
2000 computer and cannot ping the Windows 2000 computer from the Windows Me
computer, the issue is likely related to the Windows 2000 computer settings
for ICMP package.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and have a good day!

Regards,
Benny Fu
