Cannot open Word documents

I cannot open my Word files from the document icon. I can
only access it through the Word apllication itself. I get
several error messages such as: 'MSGSVR not
responding', 'NAVAPW32 has caused an error in
Kernel32.DLL' and 'Kernel32 has caused an error in
USER.EXE'.

What can I do to correct this problem?

Seems as though there is a problem with your Norton AV application.
Disabling the Norton Office Plug-in would be a start.
