Cannot open some excel file

i get this message "MICROSFT EXCEL FOR WINDOWS HAS
ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE. WE ARE SORRY
FOR THE INCONVENIENCE." everytime i open up a shared file
in our server. I don't have this problem when i was
still using windows 98. i just upgraded to windows XP.
I'm using office 2000 standard, sevice pack 3
