Both Java VM's can co-exist on your machine quite nicely. Just select which
one you want to use in Tools|Internet Options|Advanced and restart all IE
browsers. Here, courtesy of Michel Gallant, MVP Security, is a tiny utility
which allows you to toggle and view status of your current
Java VM vendor associated with IE:
http://www.jensign.com/JavaScience/SelectIEJVM/index.html
A note from Mitch Gallant:
"One note about the JVM Selector utility: If/when you install a new
version of Sun J2SE, you need to manually
select to have Sun JVM as default JVM for IE (in install), or after install
via the JavaPlugin control panel. This generates the necessary win32
registry entries, which must be present for the utility to know about
JavaPlugin. After that, the utility should work properly."

Jan Il said:Hi Voltus
No...I got a 404 Page could not be found error. I have Win ME, and IE SP1.
It may have to do with the webpage.
They give a Cookie (for bbc.co.uk) and do a lot of checking of the
User-Agent string before showing anything. Try turning on prompts
for Cookies and Active Scripting so you can tell if anything is
happening. You could also open the TIF viewer and see if you already
received it. Make your view Details and order by Last Accesssed. The
Cookie
appears as a txt file. There is also a request to use ActiveX
which
I couldn't see where it was being used but there is a script which
checks whether the browser can handle Shockwave Flash
so I suspect there may be check for it which I missed somewhere.
The point is that all of that gets done before the page starts being
rendered; so either your User-Agent string or your version of Flash
may be affecting what else is being loaded and it may be that which
is causing the 404.
If you don't want to bother with prompting you would also get
a different result simply by using the Security tab slider and
setting it to High.
Don't forget to set your security settings back to whatever
they were (e.g. click Default) after testing.
Good luck
