Cannot open files-how do I return to general format?

Adrienne

I had some files I tried to open with the wrong program
(apparently). I accidentally checked the box that makes
them ALWAYS open that way (it changed all of the files
with that format). Now I have installed the correct
program (Strandware), but the files will not open under
any program (except Excel, but they are not in the right
format for Excel, all I get is the programming language).
I get the error that the document's format is invalid or
not supported. I can't even open them to try a "Save
As...". Any ideas?

An example, from a command prompt;
assoc .zzz=
would remove any file type association from *.zzz
