Tried to open some word documents this morning and get the following errors.

Word cannot open this document template.
(C:\document and Settings\...TbRun9.dot

Word cannot open this document template.
C:\...STARTUP\FineReader7.dot

Word cannot open this document template.
C:\...STARTUP\FineReader6.dot

The file(file name)is not available

Tried a repair with the disc, but not luck

Finally did an uninstall and reinstall. That solved the problem.
Any thoughts on what might have caused this problem so that I can avoid it
in the future?

Thanks for any help
Bob

The error messages are related to Add-In files in one or both of your
startup folders. Possibly they are being blocked by Norton or by your macro
security levels. Try changing the macro security level to Medium and
checking the box to trust installed templates and Add-Ins.

I doubt you would really want to have two FineReader add-ins, but can't say
because I don't know what that is.

For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog,
and locations of templates folders see

Thanks for the links.
Changing the macro security level and checking trust installed templates did
not solve it.
Disabling the office plugin in NAV solved the errors.

That solved the errors. Not sure why all of a sudden the problem would show,
since I have used NAV with the plugin for quite sometime. Must have been
something in a liveupdate. I think I will do a bit of Google on the link
between the two.

FWIW, the TBRUN97.DOT template (I suspect it's that rather than 9) is
designed for Word 97 and won't work with later versions. As Charles
suggested, you probably don't need add-ins for two versions of FineReader,
and if you have FineReader you probably aren't using TextBridge any more
anyway (it's the app associated with TBRUN). These are just excess baggage
in your Startup folder.

Thanks for the reply.

I uninstalled FineReader6.0 and Textbridge.
I still need to disable NAV office plugin for Word to open without the
errors.

After the uninstall of the two apps. I still get

Word cannot open this document template.
(C:\document and Settings\...TbRun9.dot (it seems to be 9)

Word cannot open this document template.
C:\...STARTUP\FineReader7.dot

Both FineReader7.dot and TbRun9.dot are still in C:\Documents and
Settings\Bob\Application Data\Microsoft\Word

Is there anyway to disable something or just simply leave NAV off?
Thanks
Bob

Uninstalling these applications obviously did not remove the cited add-ins
from the Word or Office Startup folder (probably the latter if Word is
objecting even after you've told it to trust installed templates and
add-ins). Delete those files, and you should be home and dry. But note that
it is standard procedure to disable the Office Plug-in in NAV which causes
many problems and does not appear to add any functionality. As long as you
leave NAV's Auto-Protect enabled, your security is not compromised by
disabling the plug-in.

Thanks for some hand-holding through this. The files are deleted, NAV Office
Plug-in is disabled and NAV's Auto-Protect is enabled. All is well for the
moment. LOL. Who knows why things suddenly changed.
