Cannot open any .exe files!!

I have been receiving lots of emails containing the
w32.swen worm and seem to have gone wrong somewhere in
trying to get them blocked. From the control panel I went
to Folder Options then the File Types tab. I clicked New
and entered EXE and clicked ok. Now nothing will start
up!! I keep getting 'Windows cannot open this file:
(FILENAME).exe' for pretty much everything on my desktop
including system restore so I can't go back. Obviously
misread something somewhere. Please Help!!
 
Try shutdown,on starting computer,tap the F8 key,
select,safe-mode open in ADM capacity.Or you can try
open windows in last good known configuration.
