Cannot open an PowerPoint attachment

Dmitriy Shapiro

Hi,

I have a PowerPoint viewer installed and associated with "*.pps" files.
However, I see an error message from Windows Mail ("Cannot open the file ...
Set Associations"), when I double click on the attached PowerPoint slide
(pps). It works nice if I save the file and open it from Windows Explorer.

Any ideas how to make it work from Windows Mail ?

Thank you.

I had the same problem. I could send the attachment to 'my documents' and
then use the XML Converter, and re-save it, then select 'open with Microsoft
Office Powerpoint Viewer.' Geez, that was fun. Then it worked. I followed
the link on the post above, and did what it suggested, but it did not work.
I'm sorry, but I just hate Vista. It has been a whole year of BS and
work-arounds.

yes, I restarted....and even checked to see if they remained named "open"
instead of "show".....but it still says the association isnt made when I
click on the pps file in my email.....it will open if I save it to
pictures.....but will not open from mail........it used to work........now it
won't......don't know why something has gotten changed........unless an
update has changed something......any other suggestions?

PP2002 being installed could be the problem?

Office 2002 Applications are known to have incompatibilities within Vista.

You have PP Viewer 2007?

If you save the file to disc right click on it>open with>it probably has
Microsoft Power Point selected has the program to use.

Select browse>open Microsoft Office folder>office12>PPTVIEW.EXE.

That should add the viewer to the open with options, tick the box to always
use to open this type of file.

Now try to open from WM.

Pleased to hear this, and I went to the trouble of downloading the viewer,
so that I could test making it the default for .pptx & .ppt files, on XP
with Office 2003 installed :))
