Cannot open a file, improperly closed.

How can I open a file that was closed improperly, it gives me "The Microsoft
Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are
attempting to change the same database at the same time"
 
If I recall correctly, open Access directly rather than by clicking on the
file. Go to the "Tools" menu and highlight "Database Utilities". Select
"Compact and Repair Database". Point it to the appropriate database and let
it go to work. Hope this helps.
