I have a DSL modem connected to the internet and to a
linksys wireless 4 port router (192.168.1.1) Computer 1
(192.168.1.100)with cat 5. Computer 2 (192.168.1.101) is
connected to the router using wireless.
I can ping both computers. I can access shared files and
printer on computer 2 from computer1 but cannot access
shared files and printer on computer 1 from computer2.
I can see computer1 from computer 2 but get the following
message: "Computer 1 is not accessible. You might not
have permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of the server to find out if you have
access permissions. Logon failure: The user has not been
granted the requested logon type at this computer"
I have created the same user and password on both
machines.
They can ping each other.
Computer 1 successfully logs in to computer 2.
Computer 2 sees computer 1 but cannot login.
Computers 1 and 2 successfully connect to the internet.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Bob,

Are both computers running XP Home? If so, check the Guest account on both -
make sure its activated.

Do any of the computers have a software firewall (ICF or third party)? If so,
you need to configure them for file sharing, by opening ports TCP 139, 445 and
UDP 137, 138, 445, and / or by identifying the other computers as present in the
Local (Trusted) zone. Firewall configurations are a very common cause of
(network) browser, and file sharing, problems.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
