Lenny

I have my WindowsXP password protected. I was trying to get rid of some
scumware. I downloaded a program called "autoruns" from www.sysinternals.com
.. I removed a couple of startup files I didn't recognize in hopes of getting
rid of the popups. When I rebooted and tried to enter from my welcome page
with my password I couldn't get into Windows. It states it is logging on and
the 2 or 3 secs later automatically states it is logging off. It comes back
to the Welcome page with the same thing happening again if I enter the
passwaord and try again. Any help would be apppreciated

Thx Lenny

Thx for suggestions, but I'm afraid that none helped. Cannot get past
welcome page. Any other words of welcome would be appreciated.

Would appreciate any other suggestions

Hi Lenny,

Tried from Safe mode yet? Hit F8 at startup to access it.

When you installed XP, you had to create a password for
the administrator account. Log onto your system with
this account and delete the application you just
installed.

Yeah the same with safe mode. Takes me to the Welcome screen and when I
click the icon it takes about 2 sec from logging on to logging off, back to
the welcome screen. Also tried "last good configuration" in Safemode, same
thing. Frustratiing :)

Yes, only one account and that is administrator's acct. Have had it like
that for awhile. What did happen tho is when I go in in safe mode not only
do I have the named acct icon but a administrator acct icon pops up without
a password requirement. Same thing happens tho when I click on either one.
Cycles on-off-back to welcome page in about 2 sec. I removed something key
to startup with the "autorun" program. Off too work - will appreciate any
magic bullet you have - haha

Hi Lenny,

Instead of using the Welcome screen, hit ctrl+alt+delete twice to bring up
the Win2000 style logon screen. Try using it to logon as either a user or as
administrator.

Same thing using the Win2000 style logon screen. I enter password it says
"loading your personal settings" for about a half a sec - Then a brief
glimpse of my start page, again a half sec. Then logging off for a half
sec - then saving your settings, again a half sec - then back to welcome
page with icon ready to do it again. This process only takes 2 or 3 seconds
each time.

Hi Lenny,

Hmm, and it doesn't work in Safe mode, even as administrator? Guess at this
point I'd recommend a repair installation. Follow these steps to do a repair
install which should preserve your data, settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.
