Cannot locate modem

I just installed windows xp home edition on my laptop. Now
It cant seem to detect the modem. What can I do to correct
this problem

There can be several reasons for this but the easy way

is to take out your modem, turn on your computer with it
out and then turn off, put modem back in and let it
detect new hardware. another reason may be because of a
bad modem, good luck
