cannot load pages by clicking on links

Been having trouble with IE 6 xpsp2, on some web sites,
whenever I try to click on a link, i get a transparent
page, and the web page does not come up. I have to wind
up copying the shortcut from the original page and
pasting it on the address bar. Then I have an open page
blue icon on the task bar, which is blank. It shows no
web address just the Exlorer icon This also happens
when I try to access a web address contained in any of my
email. I'm running
WINXP, all updates have beern installed, current and
active Antivirus and Firewall all installed and running.
spysweeper, and everything else I can think of. Running
the same exact programs on my other system, and this
doesn't happen. Tried to reinstall IE6 but it says that
I already have a newer version and it won't install. I'm
out of ideas. Any thoughts? At this moment, I'll try
anything.

Re-register all DLLs listed in this KB article...

Installing the latest Cumulative Patch for IE may solve the problem as a
side-effect. Check in at Windows Update.

Check your system for "hijackware":

everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30 for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

THANK YOU
I re-registered all the dll's as specified. the only one
it could not find was msjava.dll
I can now click on links and it will come up. I
automatically scan for spyware on shutdown, and Norton AV
and Firewall are current. Any chance you can tell me how
these files got un registered?
I'm saving these notes for future reference in case it
happens again.

Dunno. Possibilities include spyware (merely scanning with one app at
shutdown isn't enough these days) and having your anti-virus application
running during the install of something (e.g., Windows Updates).
