Cannot install Script Editor

R

Richard

Okay - problem is the original message was Sep 9, and
going back and forth by sep 11, it was on page 6 and today
it is on page 8 and no one is responding. I need to get
the script editor to work so I have COPIED the most recent
email that was buried in the stack here.
Thanks

Well, something doesnt add up. According to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;229527, all I need is IE4.01 SP1. I have IE6 version
information: 6.0.2800.1106 with SP1 and Q822925.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-
US;Q318378 has to do with Windows XP only, and I have
mentioned, I believe, that I have Win ME. I have, however,
uninstalled and reinstalled IE6. I used the add components
to get the full install on my HD to save me time from the
many times I've been asked to do this.

So, the SP3 you mention, that's Office 2K? Because I also
believe that the reason I can't install SP3, or reinstall
SP1 or even reinstall Office 2K is all related to the same
screw up. But I have FP2K as a stand alone and was able to
install it cleanly. Only one thing doesnt work and that is
the Script Editor.

Thanks for the attempt tho
Richard

Until you fix your Windows Installer issues you will
continue to have problems getting any updates or patches
(and you will need to
do a successful SP3 and latest IE install / patch)
The Script Editor is part of IE
See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en- us;229527
And to reinstall IE see

| Okay - I put this in an earlier post, but here we go:
| I have Office 2K and Win ME.
| I go to Frontpage 2K, select Tools\Macro\Microsoft Script
| Editor. "this Feature is not currently installed?" Okay I
| want to install it. I click Yes, "Preparing to install"
| then "Microsoft Frontpage can't use web scripting, ... due
| to installer error 1635."
| us;811269 - No help - in fact, it seems to have something
| to do with AOL. but whatever
| http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
| us;223300 - is for logging, something I have turned on
| already.
| MSI.dll = V 2.0.2600.2
| This is a problem, as I have to get this site done and
| move on to the next job.
| Other problems with Office2K SP3, but I have given up on
| that already.
| Regards,
| Richard

Not a cure but a workaround:
Edit your scripts with Notepad.
