I have attempted to install Office Professional Plus 2007and get this error:

Microsoft Office Porfesional Plus 2007 encountered an error during setup.

Error 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key
UNKNOWN\.wll\Word.Addin.8\ShellNew. Verify that you have sufficient
[ermission to access the registry. (Paraphrase on the rest) Contact
Microsoft for help

I have been into the registry and found the this key I do not have
permission to access it and after attempting to gain access I was still
continually denied. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Find the Office 'Setup' file on the installation media, right click on it
and try 'running as administrator, OR install Office while logged in to an
administrator profile..

I am having the same problem with error 1402. Even after assigning
Administrator permission to the registry keys in question, Office 2007 Small
Business still cannot install. See balow for specific error:

have you tried disabling all non-essential services in msconfig except the
windows installer and reboot. then try installing again. The reactivate
service and re-start again.

Is this a temporary workaround, or does it fix the problem for good? I'm
having the same 1402 error for the latest Acrobat CS3 update as well; it too
has failed multiple times.

I have tried running the Office installer as the admin, same error. I have
disabled anti-virus, no luck. Why have the registry permissions for Vista
suddenly become inaccessible?

Thanx

Maybe a different approach will bring out experts who can help get this issue
resolved: Is there a need for the registry keys in Windows Vista to have
various levels of permission? If so, has Microsoft developed a tool which
will allow the registry to become accessible to known applications such as
Office 2007 and the Adobe Suites?

BTW, disabling all non-essential services in msconfig except the windows
installer and rebooting has no effect on the registry. Those problematic
registry keys have the same permission even in safe mode.

Thanx.
