CANNOT INSTALL NORTON ANTIVIRUS 2007

Guest

I just bought Norton Antivirus 2007 and I cannot install it on my new
computer which has WINDOWS VISTA. I have been told I need a PATCH to
download to make Norton Antivirus compatible with Windows Vista...
I have looked both on the Microsoft site and the Symantec site and cannot
find it.

Norton is not very compatible with Vista. It can and will cause many issues that is not desirable. If you can take it back to the store and get your money back or get a credit do it as soon as possible.

Avast is very good and it works quite well with Vista and on top of it there is no cost. It is free to download.

If you read many posts you will see what Norton can cause.

Be glad! Norton is CRAP and you are much better off without it. It will
completely mess up your computer.

Sorry... I only respond to the ng... how, otherwise, will our responses help
others? That said, LOL, my response will not help anyone!

Who told you a patch was needed? Perhaps that source can disclose the
location for said patch.

Must agree with other posters: Norton is, hmm, "not worthy"? Can you return
it for a refund?

I've had not problems installing or running Norton AV 2007, Norton
Internet Security 2007 or Norton 360 under VISTA.

The only "patch" I know about with the last two is a Norton Add-On to
add Anti-Spam and AD-blocking to them -- it's a free download from the
Symantec/Norton site.

Note that I do always install utilities and applications using the Run
as Administrator function that you get when you right mouse click on
the file that starts the installation. Either the downloaded file you
purchased or downloaded for trial, or on the CD where you need to stop
the autoplay by holding down the CTRL button.

Raja,
I'm not sure that will work.
The site you posted checks for the installed application prior to
downloading and installing the patch.
I.e. The 'norton application' needs to be installed first.
This patch was also intended to be installed prior to a Vista
upgrade(i.e. for a person with XP and NAV2007 and a Windows Vista
upgrade disk)
"If you are planning to upgrade your system from Windows XP to Windows
Vista, we recommend updating your Norton solution, if available, prior
to upgrading your computer to Windows Vista. This will be the best way
to ensure protection and improve the upgrade experience."

The reality here is that unless one has the Norton AV 2007 version
downloaded file or the retail product with the designed for Vista logo,
it could be problematic attemtping a clean install of NAV2007 on a fresh
Vista installation. If the install fails, then other options are
suggested:

More importantly, and especially with Vista and NAV07.....the exact
error message received during the installation...since it determines the
approach required(et al. removal, reinstall, the correct update patch
for an upgrade version or a new install etc). Without knowing that
message, its is hard to suggest a correct solution.

Symantec did not make it easy to understand this, and imo the only AV
application that really was designed and released for Vista without a
need for a patch is Symantec N360.

As an example:

This is the install file for registered users of NAV07 for a vista
install.
http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/support/special/upgrade2007/vista/select_product.jsp

This one is for failed installations on Vista with a
specific message.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...57283007361fe?OpenDocument&seg=hm&lg=en&ct=us

Thus more info is needed..without that the poster may cause more
problems to the system.

If I were the op, and I wanted NAV07, I would return the product(retail
store or to Symantec for credit) and purchase and install N360 and only
install it after using the NAV removal tool to ensure Nav2007 is cleaned
out.

Other alternatives if Symantec is not desired....Kaspersky, Nod32,
BitDefender or the free version of Avast.
