cannot install kb898461

I have tried and tried to instal this udpate to no avail. I tried the manual
install. during the manual install I get an error, (the system cannot find
the path specified) The update is not in not in my add remove programs.

Exact error after running Windows Update:

Updates were unable to be succesfully installed
the following updates were not installed kb898461

clicked on the help link, checked log, says I can remove it in add and
remove programs, I go there and (make sure updates is checked) and the update
is not there.

A few things. Has windows update installed WGA (windows genuine advantage)?
If so there have been problems after that particular update and you should
try posting here. microsoft.public.windowsupdate

BTW I don't use automatic updates(not saying you do) because it's just
something else that *can* go wrong, if you turn auto update off be sure to
check Win update once a week.
